Upload season 3 is finally arriving on Prime Video, and the possibilities for what could happen when Nathan, Ingrid, and the rest of Lakeview's residents return are virtually limitless. Debuting in 2020, sci-fi comedy Upload stars Robbie Amell as Nathan. Shortly into the first episode of Upload, Nathan dies. However, thanks to technology allowing people to upload their consciousness into virtual realities after death, Nathan finds a second life in the virtual world of Lakeview. The show was a hit for Prime Video, and the half hour sci-fi comedy fetched 1.85 billion viewing minutes across a six-week period in 2020 (via THR), with 2022's shorter second season also performing well.

Upload season 3 brings Prime Video subscribers back to the world of Lakeview when the 2023 release date arrives, and anticipation is already high thanks to a stream of early reveals and an in-depth trailer. When Nathan, Ingrid, and "guardian angel" Nora return there'll be plenty of obstacles for them to overcome, especially since the finale of the prior season saw Nathan back in the real world. With the premiere fast approach there's plenty to discuss for Upload season 3.

Most Recent Upload Season 3 News

The most recent Upload season 3 news came on September 22, 2023 with the arrival of the first Upload season 3 trailer. At 2:12 the trailer for the new Upload season gave viewers their first extended look at what's to come. While Nathan (both versions of him), Nora, and Ingrid were of course the focuses of the trailer, there was plenty shown of Upload's recurring characters too. It's also clear from the trailer that Nathan's re-downloaded consciousness in the real world isn't without consequences, especially since there's another Nathan still in Lakeview.

Upload Has Been Renewed For Season 3

Upload was renewed for season 3 in May 2022, around two months after the release of the prior season on March 11 (via Variety). Upload season 3 will consist of eight episodes, an increased order from season 2's seven.

Upload Season 3 Release Date

The release date for Upload season 3 has been set for October 20, 2023. The next season of Upload is once more a Prime Video exclusive with no plans for wider distribution. The first two episodes will both arrive on the Friday premiere date, and the following six episodes will arrive across the next three Friday's in pairs, with the Upload season 3 finale arriving on November 10.

Upload Season 3 Cast

The cast of Upload season 3 has remained mostly unchanged from the second season. Robbie Amell (The Flash, The Tomorrow People) once again returns, although in season 3 he'll be playing two versions of the deceased computer engineer Nathan. Andy Allo (Chicago Fire, Pitch Perfect 3) is of course reprising her role as Horizen service rep and love interest Nora, with Allegra Edwards (Briarpatch) back as ex-girlfriend Ingrid.

Outside the core trio, Kevin Bigley (Animal Control) rejoins the Upload season 3 cast as Nathan's Lakeview companion Luke. A.I. Guy is still servicing the residents of Lakeview as portrayed by Owen Daniels (Space Force). The rest of the season 3 cast of Upload is confirmed to include:

Additionally, Jeanine Mason (Grey's Anatomy, Roswell New Mexico) has joined the cast of Upload season 3 as a new Horizen executive named Karina, thought little is known about her character.

Upload Season 3 Story

The Upload season 3 story is set to be one of the most interesting yet for the Prime Video sci-fi comedy. Nathan's consciousness has been downloaded back into the real world. However, there's a catch, as the process could kill him. What's more, another version of Nathan exists in Lakeview thanks to a backup copy of his original. This creates no shortage of complications for Nathan, especially with now-girlfriend Nora.

Upload isn't just known for its sci-fi plot threads though, and the romance aspects of season 3 are likely to be key to the story too. Nathan and Nora found each other in the second season and are now in a relationship — although the version of Nathan that Nora loves is in a body that might not survive the third season, which complicates things. On the other hand, Ingrid is fully aware of the new old Nathan currently residing in Lakeview, and she's keen to try again where her relationship with the original Nathan failed.

The final piece of the Upload season 3 story is Freeyond conspiracy. The ending of Upload's second season saw the world poised on the launch of Freeyond. While the underprivileged citizens of the world believe that this will give them access to a free afterlife, Nathan and Nora know the truth. With millions sleepwalking into a potentially tragic and disenfranchised fate, The Ludd's goal to expose the conspiracy and stop it before the Freeyond launch will of course be a part of Upload season 3's plot.

Upload Season 3 Trailer

The trailer for Upload season 3 arrived in September 2023, and already it's clear that the events of season 2 have severe ramifications for Nathan. The trailer focuses primarily on Nathan's bizarre love triangle, with the real world version of himself struggling to keep things together with Nora while the rebooted Lakeview Nathan sticks things out with Ingrid.

However, history seems to be repeating itself, as the new virtual Nathan appears to be just as predisposed toward falling for Nora as the original. What's more, Nora seems to be succeptible to his charm. A synopsis for the Upload season 3 plot provided with the trailer (via the Prime Video YouTube channel) revealed a few of the finer details on what to expect:

In Season 3, the recently downloaded Nathan and Nora start an IRL relationship while taking down Freeyond. Meanwhile, a digital copy of Nathan is brought to life in Lakeview where he explores an alternate path with Ingrid. Aleesha is promoted to manager and has a new workplace love interest, and a lonely Luke looks for work in the Grey Zone.

The Upload season 3 trailer didn't only focus on the strange Nathan-Nora-Nathan-Ingrid love quartet though. Plenty of time was given to Nathan and Nora's ongoing struggle against Freeyond. Horizen employees Aleesha and Luke were also spotted in the trailer, with Aleesha struggling to fill Nora's shoes (which isn't helped by A.I. guy decided that work really isn't for him). It looks as though Upload season 3 will be just as action-packed as season 2 when the October 20 release date arrives on Prime Video.
