Milotic is one of Pokémon GO’s best Water types, but it’s harder to obtain than other Pokémon. Here’s how to evolve one from the feeble Feebas.

Pokemon BDSP Feebas and Milotic

Milotic, the elegant sea serpent from Hoenn, is one of the strongest Water-types in Pokémon GO. Originating in the third generation of the series, many champions and powerful trainers have had one on their team. Their beauty is the source of inspiration for countless artists; they’re featured in many works of art for this reason. Its angelic appearance calms those who encounter it, subduing any hostile emotions.

Evolving Feebas into Milotic is fairly straightforward; however, it can take time for players to achieve the evolution. Feebas is quite similar to Magikarp, but it doesn’t take 400 candies to evolve. Instead, players must make it their Buddy Pokémon and walk a fair bit. In addition, it also takes 100 Feebas candy to evolve it into Milotic.

This Water-type can take hits well thanks to its competent defenses. Many trainers will want to use this durable Pokémon for their gym defenses, but it can be hard to obtain. In fact, Milotic cannot be found anywhere in the wild and must be evolved from its pre-evolution, Feebas. Much like how the frail Magikarp evolve into powerful Gyarados, the feeble Feebas evolves into the beautiful Milotic. Let’s look at how to find and evolve them

As one might expect, Feebas’ Water-typing means it can be found near bodies of water: rivers, lakes, oceans, you name it. Rainy weather will also influence their appearance rate, so be sure to look for them while it is raining. Unfortunately, Feebas is a rare Pokémon, so they have a hard time appearing even if the suitable conditions are met. Using an incense in Pokémon GO increases the spawn rates that will help them appear in the wild, but there is one other way to obtain one. They’re one of the possible hatchings from the 10-kilometer eggs, so spin as many Pokéstops as possible for a chance to get one. Sometimes they have appeared as raid bosses, though not all the time, so be on the lookout there too.

Just like many other Pokémon, Feebas evolves by using a lot of their respective candy: 100 candies to be precise, so catching and releasing around 25 will net enough necessary for the evolution. These yields can be improved by using Pinap berries before they’re caught and hatching them will also provide some extra candies as well. However, there is one other prerequisite for evolution: players must walk with their Feebas as a buddy for 20 kilometers. This can take a while, so be sure to assign one as a buddy so the distance can be achieved sooner. They can see the progress they’ve made by checking it's status screen and looking where the 'evolve' option is listed. Walking buddies in Pokémon GO will also periodically yield more candy after a certain distance is traveled, allowing players to collect them quicker. Once the requirements are met, players will be able to add the majestic Milotic to their team.

It’s worth pointing out that Pokémon GO players must walk with a specific Feebas if they want a high-grade Milotic. For example, suppose players want a (high IV0 Milotic, they must make a (high IV) Feebas a Buddy and walk 20 kilometers for it to evolve. If players change the buddy with a better grade Feebas, they will have to start all over again.
