Who Is Garrett's Ex-Wife Kayla Cunningham?

Fans who have been watching The Bachelorette since Becca Kufrin's season in 2018 will remember her former fiancé, Garrett Yrigoyen. During the season, Garret revealed he was married to a woman named Kayla Cunningham. Viewers became aware of his ex-wife after he told Becca on a one-on-one date that he was divorced. During their date, Garrett had some harsh words for his ex, leading fans to believe the relationship did not end well.

Even though Garrett had been married before and expressed issues with his past marriage, Becca still chose him during the final rose ceremony over runner-up Blake Horstmann. While the season was still airing, a friend of Kayla's spoke with Life & Style magazine about Garrett and urged Becca to get out while she could. On the show, Garrett made it seem as though Kayla was the one who broke his heart when, in fact, it was Kayla who was left heartbroken. So, who is Kayla Cunningham?

According to Yahoo!, Kayla and Garrett were married on September 19, 2015, in Newcastle, California. Two months after the wedding, Garrett grabbed all of his belongings and left Kayla. Four months after he left, Garrett filed for divorce to officially end their marriage. In March 2016, the divorce was finalized and the couple was able to move on from their past relationship. During an episode of The Bachelorette, Garrett opened up to Becca about his marriage and how he thought he fell in love with this adventurous person, but she was not who he thought she was. Garrett accused Kayla of being emotionally abusive and said she tried to drive a wedge between him and his family. However, a friend of Kayla's had a completely different story.

When Garrett walked out on Kayla, she was reportedly blindsided. She had no idea their relationship was in trouble. Shortly after they were married, Garrett began acting cold and disrespectful towards Kayla, as well as her family. After he walked out on her, Garrett demanded half of everything they had. The former couple battled it out in court and Kayla was then forced to give Garrett money. Kayla's family felt scammed by Garrett, as they paid for the couple's wedding. No one knows why Garret suddenly wanted out of the relationship – even a friend he had known for eight years didn't know why.

This wasn't the first controversy Garrett found himself in during the season, as he was called out by fans for liking racist and offensive posts on Instagram. Becca clearly forgave him, but their different points of view eventually took a toll on the relationship. Becca and Garrett broke up in summer 2020 after more than two years together. The split occurred shortly after his offensive Instagram post sticking up for the police during the Black Lives Matter movement. It looks like both Kayla and Becca dodged a bullet with Garrett.
