What Is The Next Power Rangers Season After Cosmic Fury?

What the next Power Rangers series will be after Cosmic Fury might be the biggest question raised by Power Rangers Cosmic Fury’s ending episode.

WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS for Power Rangers Cosmic Fury.

Summary

• The next Power Rangers series is likely to be a reboot, with an original story and costumes, possibly taking place in a different continuity from previous seasons.
• Power Rangers Cosmic Furys season 2 will not happen, as the series was designed to be the end of the Dino Fury saga.
• While the future of Power Rangers after Cosmic Fury is still unclear, the possibilities for new storylines and characters are exciting, considering the expanded Power Rangers lore and potential from the BOOM! Power Rangers comics.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, which is also Power Rangers Dino Fury season 3, feels like a conclusion, raising the question of what the next Power Rangers show will be. The Dino Fury Rangers returned for a new adventure in Cosmic Fury, which sees the team fighting Lord Zedd and his new allies. Cosmic Fury picks up right where Dino Fury season 2’s finale had left off, but where the Power Rangers’ story goes next can be confusing.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury’s ending saw the team defeating Lord Zedd once and for all and saving the universe from an evil Z-Wave. Apart from a couple of seasons, every Power Rangers TV show has taken place in the same continuity, from Mighty Morphin to Cosmic Fury. However, the next Power Rangers series could change that, as Power Rangers Cosmic Fury season 2 will not happen.

The Next Power Rangers Series Is Most Likely A Reboot

A young adult Power Rangers reboot by Jonathan Entwistle, has been in the works for a couple of years. While not much is known about this Power Rangers reboot series, it is safe to say it would be an original story rather than a Super Sentai adaptation. Therefore, similar to Cosmic Fury, this new Power Rangers show would feature original costumes and characters. However, given how many Super Sentai adaptations exist in the Power Rangers timeline, a reboot series would most likely take place in a different continuity entirely. Power Rangers Cosmic Fury showrunner Simon Bennett, who has been helming the show since Dino Fury, expressed his excitement over this possible reboot on Twitter/X.

Whether this new Power Rangers show would be a Mighty Morphin reboot or a brand new story with original characters is difficult to say. The Power Rangers universe has expanded greatly in the past few years, especially with the BOOM! Power Rangers comics. As such, there is plenty of Power Rangers lore that could be used in a new series, even if takes place in a different Power Rangers universe entirely. There is still a lot to be learned about Power Rangers’ future beyond Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, but the possibilities are exciting.

Why Power Rangers Cosmic Fury Season 2 Is Not Happening

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury will not return for season 2 because the Dino Fury sequel was designed as a standalone series. Cosmic Fury was meant to be the conclusion of the Dino Fury saga and a celebration of Power Rangers’ 30th anniversary. This is why Cosmic Fury is so different from previous seasons, including the shorter number of episodes and the absence of fillers. Generally, a Power Rangers show will run for two seasons maximum before being replaced by the next Super Sentai adaptation. The Power Rangers Cosmic Fury cast broke this trend, as they’ve now been the show’s core characters for three seasons in a row.

Even if Power Rangers season 31 happens, it will not be Cosmic Fury season 2. Power Rangers may continue with the Super Sentai adaptations, but if so, the next Power Rangers season will likely introduce a new team of heroes and a different storyline. If season 31 does not happen and the show indeed goes for a reboot set in a different universe, Cosmic Fury will have been the end of the original Power Rangers show. Considering how Power Rangers Cosmic Fury episode 10 feels like a conclusion to Power Rangers as a whole, especially through Zordon’s return and Lord Zedd’s defeat, the series does work as the Power Rangers finale.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury is now streaming on Netflix.
