Ricochet Is The First Wrestler To Win All Three WWE Midcard Titles

WWE's mid-card championships are often overlooked. That wasn't the case years ago, though. There was a time when the Intercontinental Title was seen as a stepping stone to becoming the company's top guy. There's a reason Michael Cole boasts that it has been held by a dozen Hall of Famers. Not only because it's true, but because the title used to mean something and has been held by some of the biggest names in the business.
Reviving The Intercontinental Title
After a lackluster period around the waist of Shinsuke Nakamura, there's a renewed hope that the IC Championship will start to mean something again in the coming months. Sami Zayn, who has been doing some of the best character work of his career, beat Nakamura for the title. His run was short-lived though, as a Johnny Knoxville distraction means Ricochet is now the champ.

That isn't necessarily a bad thing, as WWE continues to shine a spotlight on the title and also showcase Ricochet, something that is long overdue. WWE also highlighted that by winning the IC Title, Ricochet has accomplished a pretty cool wrestling first. The new champion is the first WWE Superstar to ever hold the IC, US, and NXT North American Championships. WWE's three mid-card titles.
First And Only
Ricochet became North American Champion before he was called up to the main roster, and enjoyed a spell as the US Champ while on Raw. Neither of those wins came at a more opportune time than this latest title win, though. Not only is it just a few weeks before WrestleMania, almost guaranteeing him a place on the card, but he has been inserted directly into Zayn's beef with Knoxville which has been getting a ton of TV time.
Ricochet is regarded as one of the most talented wrestlers in the world by some, and it's a little puzzling that he hasn't reached higher heights in WWE before now. Vince McMahon might well think the IC Champion's mic skills are a little lacking, hence him not reaching main event status just yet. Perhaps as IC Champion, Ricochet can re-establish the title as a gateway to the big time while also continuing his ascent up the WWE ladder.
