Pat McAfee Addresses Rumors About His Return To WWE

Triple H has said Pat McAfee is just too busy to be a regular on NXT programming right now. But, McAfee took to his own show and hinted that while he's not in shape, a WrestleMania return might not be out of the question.

McAfee was removed from television after NXT Takeover: WarGames. It wasn't entirely clear why as he had impressed in his limited appearances for the brand and was the voice for a popular group that was just gaining momentum. That said, during a recent media call, Triple H noted that McAfee was a busy guy and his not being on NXT was not about him being pulled from the show.

He said:

"Pat is one of the most successful… I hate to put a title on what he does because I feel like it’s limiting to him, but like you say… podcaster, media personality, sports world personality… almost every weekend that I look online during football season Pat seems to be trending on the weekends. His coverage of football, his association with FanDuel, just everything that he does.”

McAfee addressed those comments from Triple H recently on the Pat McAfee Show and suggested, that while a nice thing to say, it's not entirely accurate. McAfee says he been not been contacted by NXT about a return, but he's been hitting the cardio hard. Still, McAfee said, “Have not heard anything. No ideas."

McAfee Thinks WWE Wants Him In Better Shape

Now that the football season is over, could McAfee return? He noted, "I do believe the first step would be to have the diet match the amount of conditioning I’ve been doing in the Oculus. And when that happens, look out.”

He suggested what Triple H really wanted to say was "‘Pat has been very busy. Kind of a fat a– right now. He’s going to have to get back into shape,’" He added, "And then maybe we’ll think about something."
