Kurt Angle Provides Details On His Current Deal With WWE

It's been more than two year since WWE released Kurt Angle from his contract as a backstage producer, but as it turns out, he is currently signed to a deal with the company.

Though Angle isn't signed to a promotion at this time, he continues to make sporadic appearances for WWE. He sent John Cena a congratulatory video message for the latter's 20-year WWE anniversary celebration. Angle also made an appearance on the Aug. 29 episode of WWE Raw. There, he was involved in a segment with The Street Profits and Alpha Academy and later fellow Hall of Famer Edge backstage.

During an interview with Bubba the Love Spunge (h/t WrestlingInc.com), the Olympic gold medalist and former general manager of Monday Night Raw offered details on his current WWE contract.

"I signed a nostalgia contract, which is basically just a merchandise contract," Angle said. "So they pay me per appearance, and they gave me a really nice deal with the merchandise contract. They gave me a bunch of money upfront, which is really cool. But I'm not obligated to just the WWE, so I can go do my own appearances and stuff."

Angle returned to WWE in 2017 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame. On the post-WrestleMania 34 edition of Raw, Vince McMahon introduced Angle as the new GM of the brand. The latter would hold that role for over a year, and he wrestled on a part-time basis on the side.

After he was released from his role as a producer, Angle received an offer to manage Matt Riddle following the latter's promotion to the main roster. Angle decided to reject that, as well as an offer to coach at NXT. Though he decided not to manage Riddle, Angle did introduce the latter to the WWE SmackDown brand on May. 29, 2020.

In 2019, Angle went on a mini retirement tour and faced several superstars prior to his final match against Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35. The Olympic gold medalist lost to Corbin via pinfall in a match that was widely regarded as a disappointment. Angle turned down an offer from McMahon to eventually face Cena following his program with Corbin.
