Here's a guide to the cast and characters of King Of The Hill. Mike Judge is best known today as a writer and director, but before joining the industry he used his physics degrees to work jobs like programming F-18 fighter jet systems. After a stay in Silicon Valley, he opted for a career change, with his animated short Frog Baseball introducing pop culture icons Beavis And Butthead. After launching his career with the latter show on MTV, Judge has been prolific. He's directed cult classics like Idiocracy and Office Space and later created HBO comedy Silicon Valley.
One of his most beloved series is King Of The Hill, which arrived in 1997. This animated sitcom focuses on an everyman who lives in Texas with his family and is constantly bemused by the antics of his friends and loved ones. King Of The Hill featured sharp comic writing and was able to make the mundane hilarious. The show ran for thirteen seasons before coming to an end in 2010. Mike Judge has said a revival is possible, and would likely focus on aged versions of the main characters.
Even if a revival doesn't happen, King Of The Hill has over 250 episodes for fans to enjoy. Here's a guide to the show's characters and who voiced them.
Mike Judge - Hank Hill / Boomhauer
Mike Judge himself voices Hank on King Of The Hill, a man who defines himself by his job as a propane salesman. Hill is old-fashioned to a fault, and much of the humor of the series is derived from how out of touch he is with the modern world. He's rigid and uptight and has trouble being affectionate with his family, but while he has a hard time showing or saying it, he's a loving, loyal family man and friend.
Judge also voices Hank's friend Boomhauer, who is famous for his mumbly, hard to understand speech. He loves his car and is something of a ladies man.
Kathy Najimy - Peggy Hill
Hocus Pocus star Kathy Najimy voices Peggy on King Of The Hill, Hank's wife and Bobby's mother. Peggy is a Spanish teacher despite being terrible with the language and a running gag involves her shame with her size 16 feet. Peggy is a little more relaxed than Hank and welcoming of Bobby's quirky interests, even if she doesn't really understand them either.
Pamela Adlon - Bobby Hill
Better Things' Pamela Adlon voices Hank's lazy, oddball son Bobby. A big theme on the show is Hank's disconnection from Bobby, with the two having completely different personalities and ways of thinking. Bobby hates sports and wants to be a comedian - much to Hank's dismay - and has a crush on next-door neighbor Connie.
Brittany Murphy - Luanne Platter
The late Brittany Murphy voiced Luanne on King of The Hill, Peggy's niece who comes to live with the family after her parent's break-up. Hank isn't happy with Luanne living in his house, but it soon becomes clear she's going nowhere. Despite being childish and a little dimwitted at times, she's also got a good heart. By the end of the show, she's married to Lucky (Tom Petty) and they have a daughter together.
Johnny Hardwick - Dale Gribble
Johnny Hardwick voices Dale on King Of The Hill, Hank's neighbor, and close friend. Dale is a pest exterminator known for always wearing sunglasses and smoking, and is completely unaware his wife Nancy is having an affair with his "friend" John Redcorn, or that his son Joseph isn't really his. Dale is also into conspiracies, owes lots of guns, and uses pocket sand as a defense mechanism.
Stephen Root - Bill
Office Space's Stephen Root voices Bill on King Of The Hill, another of Hank's neighbors. Bill is an Army barber and is still depressed over his divorce from beloved wife Lenore. Because of this he suffers from a complete lack of self-confidence and is unlucky in love.
