Square Enix has filed another Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade trademark, which could indicate that more ports of the game are coming soon.
A new Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade trademark has been filed by Square Enix in Japan, which may hint that a new port of the game is in development. FF7 Remake Intergrade launched on PS5 in June 2021, with a PC port arriving on the Epic Games Store in December of the same year.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergade is an enhanced port of FF7 Remake, which included a number of graphical and performance issues. The biggest addition to the game was the INTERmission DLC, which added two new chapters featuring Yuffie from FF7, as she infiltrates the city of Midgar during the events of the story. The original version of FF7 Remake was a timed exclusive on PS4, while FF7 Remake Intergrade was a timed exclusive on PS5.
It has already been promised by Square Enix that FF7 Remake news will arrive in June, and fans are hoping for an announcement regarding the sequel to the game. However, it's possible that Square Enix isn't done with the first game just yet. According to Chizai Watch (as spotted by Gematsu), Square Enix has filed a trademark for the Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade name in Japan. The trademark was revealed on May 20 in Japan and it was filed on May 12. It's likely that the trademark was filed in anticipation of the June announcement.
It's possible that FF7 Remake Intergrade could arrive on other consoles soon, as the original PS5 version of Intergrade launched on June 10, 2021, so a one-year exclusivity deal would be ending soon. The most likely candidate for this trademark is an FF7 Remake Intergrade Xbox Series S/X port, especially if Microsoft can ensure that it receives a day one launch on Game Pass. The Nintendo Switch likely isn't strong enough to run the game, but a cloud version of FF7 Remake Intergrade is possible. The EGS deal means that FF7 Remake Intergrade likely won't be coming to Steam any time soon, but a release on different streaming gaming platforms could be on the cards, such as Google Stadia.
FF7 Remake and FF7 Remake Intergrade have been huge gets for Sony, but Square Enix will eventually want the game available on different platforms. An Xbox Series X/S port of FF7 Remake Intergrade would be interesting to see, especially if the rumors of Sony acquiring Square Enix are true. If Sony does acquire Square Enix, then Xbox owners might only ever get to experience the first chapter of Cloud Strife's new journey in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on their systems.
