It wasn't too long ago when former WWE Champion Big E suffered a severe neck injury that has kept him out of action for almost two years. Someone who many cited as a potential breakout star as a singles performer, Big E was able to showcase his potential during his run with the critically acclaimed New Day faction along with Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods. And when he finally won the WWE Championship, it appeared that he would take his career to the next level. However, not long after losing the WWE Championship to Brock Lesnar in early 2022, Big E sustained a severe neck injury after taking a botched maneuver during a tag team match on a March 2022 episode of SmackDown. As Big E has been out of action since the events of his injury, it seems more likely he'll never get back into the ring, with him possibly going into other ventures.

The Rise Of WWE Superstar Big E

Many have cited Big E as a potential breakout star ever since his tenure on WWE's NXT brand, as he is arguably best known for his massive physique and the comedic personality he brings to the table. Although he had a rough start upon his main roster debut in 2012, Big E achieved his most success when he teamed with Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods as part of the New Day in late 2014, which became one of the best factions in WWE history.

Aside from winning multiple tag team championships throughout their run, one of the reasons why the New Day succeeded was their charisma. Big E, especially, shined as a charismatic performer throughout his run as part of the New Day, as many thought he was deserving of another singles run because of it.

Big E eventually did break out on his own as a singles star for the second time in late 2020. Not long after splitting from the New Day, he won the WWE Championship by successfully cashing in his Money in the Bank suitcase on a September 2021 episode of Monday Night Raw, the second member out of the New Day to win a world title. And even though his WWE Championship reign only lasted a couple of months before losing the belt to Brock Lesnar in a Fatal Four Way match at the Day 1 PPV, Big E could've achieved more as a singles performer if the events of his neck injury hadn't occurred.

Big E's Career Threatening Injury And Potential Post-Retirement Ventures

Moving to the SmackDown brand and reuniting with the New Day, during a tag match against Sheamus and Ridge Holland on a March 2022 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Big E suffered a broken neck after taking a botched belly-to-belly suplex from Ridge Holland at ringside. Ever since then, Big E has not wrestled a match, and recently, he has stated that even his doctors have advised him to hang up his boots.

Fortunately for Big E, as he has expressed in wanting to go to other ventures if he were to retire, his charisma will allow him to do other forms of entertainment. Over the years, Big E has starred in TV roles, including doing voice-over for Adult Swim's animated series Lazor Wulf.

It's also worth mentioning that just because Big E can't wrestle in the ring, it doesn't mean his career in the professional wrestling business has to end. Big E could still be an on-screen character of some kind for WWE or any other professional wrestling promotion. For instance, if the New Day continues their act for the next couple of years, who's to say that he can't be a mouthpiece for Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods? And speaking of being a mouthpiece, Big E could also be a WWE commentator if he has the skills for being a TV announcer.
