Every Sting Match In AEW Ranked Worst To Best

Sting’s time in AEW has been better than perhaps anyone could have ever expected. His tag team with Darby Allin has allowed him one more chance to have an in-ring career, and despite being in his 60s, he has exceeded everyone’s expectations in terms of how good he has been.

For the most part, his matches have been very enjoyable, and he has been presented as a larger than life figure, winning every match so far. Not all have been show-stealers, with there being a slight range in quality. It is quite hard to pick between a lot of his matches, as they have mostly been very enjoyable.

13 Sting & Darby Allin Vs The Gunn Club, Dynamite, 1st December 2021

Arguably the worst of Sting’s matches in AEW came in a tag team match against Billy & Colten Gunn. The face off between the two veterans wasn’t really that big of a deal, even though AEW tried to make it a huge moment.

Most of the action was pretty simple, but it wasn’t bad by any means.

12 Sting & Darby Allin Vs Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal, Full Gear, 19th November 2022

Seeing Sting and Jeff Jarrett still being relatively able to go at it in the ring despite their respective ages was nice, but it doesn’t mean that AEW should’ve booked.

Like always, Darby Allin & Sting’s feature on an AEW PPV offered a lot of fun and some noteworthy spots, but this story was a little lacking, and the feature of Jarrett and Sting felt like a step in the wrong direction for AEW.

11 Sting & Darby Allin Vs The Acclaimed, Dynamite, 19th January 2022

The story of this match was pretty good, with Sting being forced to fight in a 2-on-1 situation as Allin was taken to the back. Sting’s selling was strong, and the moment in which Allin made his comeback was great.

It was fun, though it was nothing overly special, as the result was never in doubt, and for the most part the stuff in the ring was very by the book.

10 Sting, Darby Allin, & Miro Vs House Of Black, All Out, 4th September 2022

The storylines leading into this match felt a little rushed ahead of the All Out PPV, and the lack of chemistry between Miro and his teammates showed. It was still a fun match, but there did feel as though there was something just missing.

All six men are good workers, but on a stacked show, this did unfortunately get lost in the shuffle a bit.

9 Sting, Darby Allin, & The Hardy Boyz Vs Andrade Family Office, Dynamite, 23rd March 2022

This was chaos from start to finish, in a good way. It was nice seeing Sting team up with The Hardy Boyz, though the feud with the Family Office wasn’t great.

Jeff Hardy managed to shine here with some great spots, though it could be argued that things got a little messy from time to time. The Tornado stipulation allowed things to get crazy, and the crowd loved it all.

8 Sting & Darby Allin Vs 2point0, Dynamite, 18th, August 2021

Sting’s first match on TV came in the opener of an episode of Dynamite against the newly signed team of 2point0, and considering the result was never in doubt, this was tremendously fun.

The Texas Tornado stipulation played into the strengths of the match, allowing for a sprint of a contest which was constructed wonderfully.

7 Sting & Darby Allin Vs House Of Black, Rampage: Grand Slam, 21st September 2022

Sting’s first and only match on AEW Rampage took place at the Grand Slam edition of the show, and it featured several huge bumps, brutal spots, a great finish, and a post-match appearance from The Great Muta.

Sure, the story going in wasn’t all that enthralling, but this match made up for it. Fans were a little curious into Black’s actions following the bell, as he appeared to say goodbye to the fans. However, he and the House of Black, despite rumors, recently returned to AEW TV.

6 Sting, Darby Allin, & Sammy Guevara Vs Andrade-Hardy Family Office, Revolution, 6th March 2022

This was a chaotic multi-man brawl which went at 100mph. Sting had his standard high spot, where he dived from the crowd onto a sea of men.

The likes of Guevara and Allin added to the pace of the match too. AEW placed this in the spot before the main event of this PPV, with it being the perfect thing to get the crowd on their feet again. It was predictable though, as the Andrade-Hardy Family Office were so bland that it was clear they weren’t winning.

5 Sting & Darby Allin Vs Team Taz, Revolution, 7th March 2021

The cinematic nature of this Street Fight wasn’t to everyone’s tastes, but for those who liked the style, this was one of the better cinematic bouts of the pandemic era. This was also Sting’s first return to action since being forced into retirement six years prior, making it feel special.

There were some scary stunts and big moments, but Sting’s return was capped off with him winning in a great moment.

4 Sting & Darby Allin Vs Men Of The Year, Double Or Nothing, 30th May 2021

Most of this match was quite simple with classic tag team psychology, but the novelty of seeing Sting wrestle inside a ring and in front of a crowd for the first time in six years was truly special.

His dive off the stage, removing his shirt to reveal a good physique, and everything else about this match was just perfectly done.

3 Sting & Darby Allin Vs FTR, Dynamite: Grand Slam, 22nd September 2021

This was such a fun, old-school style of tag team match. FTR played their roles perfectly, and weren’t harmed at all by the way Sting can shrug off offense so easily, with them managing to always retain their momentum.

The big occasion of the special Grand Slam edition of Dynamite elevated this bout too. FTR proved once again to be such a fantastic tag team, bringing their class psychology to the bout.

2 Sting, Darby Allin, & Shingo Takagi Vs BULLET CLUB, Forbidden Door, 26th June 2022

The clash of styles, the mixture of intensity, athleticism, comedy, and everything else too just made for a perfect recipe here.

The stars of AEW and NJPW came together to put on yet another great match at the Forbidden Door PPV, as Sting teamed up with Darby Allin and Shingo Takagi to take on The Young Bucks and El Phantasmo.

1 Sting, Darby Allin, & CM Punk Vs The Pinnacle, Dynamite: Holiday Bash, 22nd December 2021

This was one of the most fun main events of Dynamite in history. Seeing Sting team up with CM Punk was surreal, and seeing him, Punk, and Allin don face paint was truly an all-time AEW moment.

MJF & FTR made for great opponents, with the match managing to weave together several stories at once. For 25 minutes, these six men put on a clinic, with near-falls, psychology, hard-hitting moments, and more.
