12 Original Characters Missing From Paramount's Zoey 102 Movie

Although plenty of fan-favorite Zoey 101 characters returned for Zoey 102, a significant amount was missing from the Paramount+ revival movie.

Warning: The following article contains spoilers from Zoey 102.

Summary

Dustin Brooks, Lola Martinez, Nicole Bristow, Dana Cruz, James Garrett, Coco Wexler, Lisa Perkins, Dean Rivers, Malcolm Reese, Firewire, Rebecca Martin, and Kazu were absent in Zoey 102.
Some characters couldn't make it due to the actors' busy schedules or personal reasons, while others were not mentioned.
Despite the missing characters, the revival movie still captured the nostalgia and humor that made Zoey 101 beloved, and fans enjoyed the long-awaited reunion.

Zoey 102 served as a Pacific Coast Academy reunion, but unfortunately, not every Zoey 101 character could make it to the occasion. A handful of the actors from the original series, including Jamie Lynn Spears as Zoey Brooks, Sean Flynn as Chase Matthews, Christopher Massey as Michael Barret, Erin Sanders as Quinn Pensky, Matthew Underwood as Logan Reese, Jack Salvatore Jr. as Mark Del Figgalo, and Abby Wilde as Stacey Dillsen, reprised their roles for the 2023 Paramount+ revival movie. The film came 15 years after Zoey 101 ended, but it was worth the wait.

The movie revolved around Quinn and Logan's wedding (and the tense reunion between Zoey and Chase, who had sadly broken up after high school). The revival contained the same hijinks and ridiculous humor that made the original Nickelodeon series great. However, while Zoey 102 was full of nostalgia and was a satisfying revival of the show so many people loved in the 2000s, viewers couldn't help but notice that a few notable characters from Zoey 101 were missing from the story.

12 Dustin Brooks

Zoey's little brother, Dustin Brooks, could not make it to Quinn and Logan's wedding in Zoey 102. Paul Butcher, who played Dustin in Zoey 101, previously made it clear that he wanted nothing to do with the revival. The actor had no interest in returning to his character or bringing this world back to life. As a result, Dustin didn't return for Zoey 102. However, Zoey updated fans on her brother while talking with Quinn's mom at Quinn's dress fitting. She revealed that Dustin had two kids and was expecting twins, so he's a long ways away from the boy who viewers last saw in the series finale.

11 Lola Martinez

Lola Martinez, played by Victoria Justice, was another important Zoey 101 character suspiciously absent from Zoey 102. Lola was Zoey and Quinn's roommate in the original series, so one would think she would not only be at Quinn and Logan's wedding but would also be a bridesmaid. However, Lola was not in attendance, and no one explained why. Her name was dropped during the first conversation between Zoey, Chase, and Danielle, Chase's "girlfriend," when Danielle tried to guess who Zoey was. The real reason behind Lola's absence from Zoey 102 was Justice's busy schedule — she wanted to be in the movie but couldn't make it work.

10 Nicole Bristow

Nicole Bristow, played by Alexa Nikolas in Zoey 101, wasn't involved in the Paramount+ revival film. Nicole was one of Zoey's original roommates at PCA but left after season 2 when she was diagnosed with Obsessive Male Gender Disorder (OMGD), and her parents subsequently enrolled her in an all-girls school. As a result, Quinn moved in with Zoey and Lola, and the rest is history. Nikolas had an infamous feud with Jamie Lynn Spears on the Zoey 101 set and was one of many Nickelodeon stars to speak out against Dan Schneider. As a result, Nicole missing from Zoey 102 wasn't a surprise.

9 Dana Cruz

Kristin Herrera portrayed Dana Cruz, Zoey and Nicole's roommate in Zoey 101 season 1, but the actress exited the show before the second season. The series explained that Dana had enrolled in a student exchange program in Paris and was never seen again, even in Zoey 102. Before the movie premiered in July 2023, Herrera revealed that she had been offered to join the revival's cast but had turned it down. However, like Lola, Danielle mentioned Dana in Zoey 102 when she mistook Zoey for her.

8 James Garrett

Austin Butler got his start working on Nickelodeon shows, and his first starring role was as James Garrett in Zoey 101. James was Chase's replacement (as Zoey's love interest and Michael and Logan's roommate) in season 4 after Chase moved to London. However, Zoey and James broke up during the series finale when Zoey couldn't get Chase out of her head. Fifteen years later, James appeared to be just a fleeting memory in the characters' lives as he didn't attend Logan and Quinn's wedding, nor was he mentioned. Given Butler is a major movie star now, his busy schedule likely didn't permit him to appear in Zoey 102.

7 Coco Wexler

Not many expected Coco Wexler, the girls' dorm advisor in Zoey 101, to appear in Zoey 102, and she didn't. Jessica Chaffin played Coco in the original Nickelodeon series and was the very definition of a hot mess. Zoey, Quinn, and Lola constantly had to comfort her after her many breakups with her boyfriend, Carl. Even though Coco had her issues, she was one of the most stable adults in the characters' lives, but that didn't mean she got an invitation to the wedding. They still talked about Coco, though, since she was another person Danielle mistook Zoey for in Zoey 102.

6 Lisa Perkins

Lisa Perkins, played by American Idol alum Lisa Tucker, first appeared in Zoey 101 season 3 as Michael's crush turned girlfriend. She continued to be the main character's girlfriend until the end of the series, and the couple even attended prom together. However, Michael and Lisa must have broken up following high school since she didn't accompany Michael to Quinn and Logan's wedding, nor was she mentioned in Zoey 102.

5 Dean Rivers

Christopher Murray as Dean Rivers didn't star in Zoey 102, but the other characters revealed a shocking truth about him during the revival. The dean was one of the few adults in Zoey 101, and it turned out that he was not that great of a dean. Zoey, Quinn, Michael, Logan, Chase, Stacey, and Mark revealed that PCA closed after graduation because the school wasn't accredited, and Dean Rivers stole students' tuition to feed his gambling problem. Obviously, one could understand why Dean Rivers wasn't in Zoey 102.

4 Malcolm Reese

One would imagine that Malcolm Reese would attend his son's wedding in Zoey 102, but he was nowhere to be found in the revival film. Instead, Logan's sister Lyric (a new character created for the movie) played a significant role in Logan and Quinn's big day. Perhaps Malcolm was there offscreen, but his portrayer in Zoey 101, Michael Corbett, was not involved in Zoey 102.

3 Firewire

Firewire, played by Allen Evangelista, was a recurring character in Zoey 101, but he didn't attend Quinn and Logan's wedding in the Paramount+ revival movie. Aside from Quinn, Firewire was the designated nerd in the original series, and most of his appearances resulted in the other characters making fun of him. He was never good friends with the main characters, so it's not too surprising that Firewire isn't seen or heard about in Zoey 102.

2 Rebecca Martin

Daniella Monet played Chase's first girlfriend, Rebecca Martin, in Zoey 101 season 3, and she was awful. Rebecca was immediately jealous of Zoey and Chase's relationship, so she forbade them from seeing one another. The ultimatum didn't go over too well with Chase, so he broke up with her. Given her rivalry with Zoey, it wasn't shocking to learn Rebecca wouldn't appear in Zoey 102, but her presence would have made for some intriguing drama.

1 Kazu

Kazu, played by Brian Tee, was the manager of the characters' favorite restaurant, Sushi Rox, in Zoey 101. They constantly ate at Sushi Rox, and Chase and Logan even worked for Kazu at one point in the Nickelodeon series. Unfortunately, Kazu didn't appear in the revival film but was mentioned at the end when Zoey, Chase, Michael, and everyone else set up a new wedding venue at PCA's abandoned campus. Chase revealed that Sushi Rox closed after PCA shut down, but Kazu's son opened a food truck, which then catered Quinn and Logan's wedding in Zoey 102.
